Followers of interim president Juan Guaidó and the government of Nicolás Maduro clashed with clean chairs this Saturday, starring in a brawl in the best style of the American West in the dispute over political spaces between opponents and Chavistas.
It happened in the sports field of the town of Santa Rosa de Agua, Cuatricentenario sector in Maracaibo, capital of the oil state of Zulia, in the northwest of the country, where the activists of Voluntad Popular (VP), a party founded by Leopoldo López, had organized a meeting with Guaidó, who was touring the area.
But before the opposition leader arrived at the political event, a group of officials and activists from the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) attacked the organizers of the partisan meeting, which led to a harsh confrontation with the aggressors.
Fortunately, the blood did not reach the river, but the chairs flew from one side to the other, resulting in several activists being beaten and bruised, according to images that circulated on Twitter. Guaidó’s caravan managed to reach the place to denounce “the regime’s attacks.”
«We are with our people from Zulia state, in the streets, showing our faces, mobilizing and demonstrating the majority that we are. The violent will not be able to silence the voice of a majority that wants a free and democratic country,” said the opposition leader.
Both Guaidó and the deputies of the National Assembly elected in 2015, members of the Unitary Platform, are campaigning in all corners of Venezuela to report on the decision to call opposition primaries to elect the unity candidate in 2023, which The presidential elections of 2024 will be held.
Each party of the 30 organizations that make up the opposition Unitary Platform is getting ready to launch its candidate in the primaries. Hence, the Chavista activists are nervous and violently try to sabotage their political acts.
