A toddler has been found dead in an alligator’s mouth in Florida. The two-year-old had been reported missing by police and was publicly wanted after his 20-year-old mother was found stabbed to death at her home earlier Thursday. The boy’s father is accused of murdering both of them, the St. Petersburg police wrote on Facebook. The man was arrested on Friday.
After a large-scale search for the boy, police were alerted to an alligator in local Lake Maggiore that had something in its mouth, the Friday statement said. The animal was killed and the boy’s body was recovered. The exact cause of death is being investigated by a coroner. According to a CNN report, investigators assume that the suspect’s father placed the boy’s body in the lake. According to the broadcaster, the man’s public defender stated that she first wanted to get an overview of the facts, connections and mental state of her client.
