In a fire in an apartment building in Berlin-Spandau, firefighters saved ten people. Eight of them were taken to hospitals, the fire department said on Wednesday evening. A spokesman said one of them had life-threatening injuries, probably from smoke gases. According to the spokesman, the fire broke out on the first floor of the building on Jagowstrasse. The fire brigade was alerted at 5:58 p.m. and was on site with almost 90 emergency services. The RBB had previously reported.

At that time, a resident was standing at the fourth floor window and wanted to jump, the spokesman said. That’s why a jump pad was set up. Ultimately, however, the emergency services got him out of the house via the stairs. A total of five residents were brought into the open via this route with the help of so-called fire escape hoods. Five more were freed via turntable ladders.

According to the fire brigade, they looked after the remaining tenants on site. They were taken to a neighboring church. In the evening it was said that the fire was under control.
