The artist group Neozoon was awarded the Saxon Film Promotion Prize at the 35th Filmfest Dresden for the short film “Lake of Fire”. “The Saxon Film Promotion Award is recognition for what has already been achieved and is also intended to motivate further creative work,” said Saxony’s Minister of Culture, Barbara Klepsch (CDU), on Saturday when the award was presented in Dresden. The prize, which is endowed with 20,000 euros, is sponsored by the Saxon Ministry of Culture.
The short film “Asterión” by Francesco Montagner was awarded the “Golden Rider” for the best short film in the international competition. According to the jury, the Czech-Slovak co-production is “a transformative, disturbing, yet beautiful film that feels controlled and wild at the same time”. Best animated film in the international competition went to “It’s Raining Frogs Outside” by Maria Estela Paiso from the Philippines.
“The film festival contributes to the important input for the Saxon film industry and is an indispensable place for exchange and networking between artists and the public,” said Klepsch. The Filmfest Dresden is one of the most important festivals of the short film genre in Germany and enjoys an excellent reputation as a popular industry meeting point in the regional and international short film scene.
According to the festival organizers, this time the entries in the competition were selected from over 2,800 entries: animations, fictional and hybrid works and productions from Brazil, China, Colombia, Colombia, Congo, Croatia, India, the Philippines, South Korea and Taiwan. The topics range from gender diversity or solidarity in everyday life to climate change and environmental protection to music and Sorbian culture.
