The hockey men from the Hamburger Polo Club can continue to dream of participating in the Final8 of the Euro Hockey League. In their European premiere on Thursday, the Hanseatic League defeated Wimbledon HC 4-0 (3-0) in their opening game at the KO16 tournament in Hamburg. In the duel between the German and English runners-up, Constantin Staib opened the scoring in the fifth minute. Paul Smith (17th), again Staib (35th) and Kane Russell (49th) ensured the final score. Curious: During the attack that led to the first goal, one of the referees slipped on the rain-soaked pitch, apparently injuring his left shoulder and having to be replaced.

On Friday (7:00 p.m.) the polo team coached by Matthias Witthaus will now fight against Liasnagarvey HC from Ireland for a place in the Final8. Local rivals Harvestehuder THC only play their first game on Saturday against the Western Wildcats from Scotland.
