Whiskey, gin and rum are popular gifts at Christmas. However, it is not that easy to find the right spirit for real gourmets. Most of the time the choice is like a shot in the dark. Not so with an Advent calendar, because instead of one large one, there are 24 mini bottles that real connoisseurs can taste their way through. If you want to give a rum lover a little joy or if you are one yourself, the comparison will help you find the right Advent calendar. And who knows, maybe a few days later your new favorite drop will be in a large version under the fir tree.

The rum advent calendar from Vita Dulcis in the classic edition offers a real trip around the world. Each little bottle comes from a different country. Incidentally, rum from rather atypical countries such as Scotland, Spain and Vietnam are also included. There are also real treasures lying dormant in the Advent calendar: an example would be the Ron Zacapa La Armonia – The Harmony Cask. The large version (0.7 liters) costs around 75 euros and, according to the manufacturer, has an intense fruity note. In addition to the 24 small 0.02 liter bottles, the calendar also includes a tasting booklet in German and English.

The PiHaMi Rum Advent Calendar in the Blue Edition also contains 480 milliliters of rum. And again, each of the bottles comes from a different country. There are exotics, for example a rum from the brand “A Clean Spirit” from Denmark. The Danes’ sales promise is that the entire supply chain and production of the rum is sustainable. The calendar also includes rum from South Africa, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mauritius and Peru, among others. Nice: Tasting glasses are hidden in the first two doors of the calendar. Unfortunately, the calendar does not come with a booklet, but there is a small notebook in which you can record your thoughts about the spirits.

Albert Heinrich Riise traveled to the West Indies in 1838 to produce medicines there. Riise was a pharmacist and 185 years ago spirits were definitely considered medicine. His trip to India marked the starting point for today’s rum creations from the company of the same name. 24 of the delicacies are in 0.02 liter bottles in the rum advent calendar from A.H. Riise, whose design resembles an old book. Although similar is the wrong word, because the “pages” of the calendar contain little stories about the company’s tradition and its rum. A booklet or tasting glasses are not included.

Of course, 24 short ones are also in the premium edition of the rum advent calendar from Vita Dulcis. However, only 23 of the 0.02 liter bottles are rum and one cachaca. Although this is also sugar cane brandy – just from Brazil. Once again you can taste rum from all parts of the world: among others, bottlings from Nicaragua, Colombia, Panama, La Reunion, Spain and Barbados are included. In the accompanying booklet you can read what makes each rum special. Unfortunately, tasting glasses are not included in the calendar.

At least there is a tasting glass in the normal version of PiHaMi’s rum advent calendar. There is also a rum compendium in the calendar that provides you with all sorts of curious information from the world of rum. What shouldn’t be missing, of course, are the 24 0.02 liter bottles that are waiting to be tasted.

The final round is the rum advent calendar from Vita Dulcis in the normal edition. It impresses with a particularly Christmassy design and of course contains 24 0.02 liter bottles. Unfortunately, you won’t find a tasting glass. The calendar comes with a small book that informs you about the different types of rum. Merry Christmas.
