Almost three years after millions were stolen from a money transport company in Bremen, the now 31-year-old suspect was arrested. As the police in the Hanseatic city announced on Wednesday, investigators arrested the former company employee at Bremen Airport on Tuesday. The 31-year-old initially fled abroad after the theft in May 2021, but now turned herself in to the authorities.
The woman expressed her intention to return through her lawyer, officials said. She flew from Turkey to Bremen on Tuesday and was immediately arrested. According to a judge’s decision, she was taken into custody on the same day. Further interrogations and investigations continued.
According to previous information, the 31-year-old stole almost 8.2 million euros from security bags on May 21, 2021. She brought the money out of the company in a roll container through a lock. She then called in sick and the theft was only discovered a few days later.
The suspect has been searched for ever since. An accomplice of the 31-year-old already had to answer for the theft before the Bremen regional court. In 2022 she was sentenced to three years in prison for aiding and abetting theft in a particularly serious case. Among other things, she is said to have been involved in planning the escape.
