The shock of an allegedly escaped lioness is apparently still in the bones of some Berliners. At least the residents of the capital seem to be sensitized to predators – on Tuesday evening the police received another emergency call.
This time someone in the Dahlem district (Steglitz-Zehlendorf district) wanted to see a big cat and alerted the officials. A patrol immediately set out to inspect the situation in the finch park where the animal was supposed to be. In contrast to the day-long search for a lioness a week and a half ago in Berlin and Brandenburg, this time the case was quickly clear. “False alarm” tweeted the police to a picture of the alleged big cat: “It’s a stuffed animal.”
However, the cuddly toy had obviously given a citizen a real fright. “The caller thought it was real,” said a police spokesman. Fortunately, the local police officers were able to give the all-clear quickly. “This time there is no doubt: It’s not a wild boar,” the police tweeted, alluding to the search for the alleged lioness, which ultimately turned out to be a wild boar.
With a large contingent, the police recently searched for an allegedly escaped lioness in the south of Berlin and in Brandenburg after a video appeared on the Internet that was supposed to show the predator. The case drew international attention. However, after a day and a half of searching, experts came to the conclusion that the animal on the recordings was a wild boar. An analysis by the Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research, which examined the animal’s hair and faeces, confirmed this.
