A gas leak at a comprehensive school in Idstein, southern Hesse, injured 15 students. According to the civil protection of the Rheingau-Taunus district, they came to surrounding hospitals. Initially, at least 23 injured students were mentioned. It was initially unclear what type of gas it was. Irritant gas may have been sprayed, said a spokesman for civil protection.

Two rescue helicopters, around 30 ambulances and around ten emergency doctors were deployed in the large-scale operation on Thursday. They examined 75 schoolchildren on site who complained of eye and respiratory tract irritation. A total of around 120 helpers were deployed. Although there was no longer any danger in the afternoon, school operations were temporarily suspended. School administration, police and emergency counselors looked after concerned parents who came to the school.
