At numerous schools in Brandenburg, fundamental renovations of buildings or sports halls can be tackled this year. The Ministry of Education announced on Monday that 22 school construction projects were approved across the country last year with funding of almost 12 million euros. A spokesman said that there were also the own shares of the school authorities with a total of 9.3 million euros. The sponsors each have to take on about half of the investments.

Around 3.9 million euros in state funding flow into the construction of a new sports hall at the sports school in Frankfurt (Oder) and in the Berge elementary school, the replacement of the windows in the classrooms and the renovation of supply lines are being funded with 162,000 euros. More than 1 million euros in funding is being used to refurbish the historic part of the Otto-Seeger elementary school in Rathenow. And with a subsidy of almost 800,000 euros, a new schoolyard is being built for the Friedrichsthal primary school in Oranienburg.

Funds are paid from the municipal investment program (KIP) II, and 70 million euros are available for the renovation of schools. The run on this program was very big: Of almost 170 applications, only a good 60 could probably be approved, said the ministry spokesman. With the own shares of the school authorities, a total of around 138 million euros would then be invested in the renovation projects.
