OVIEDO, 17 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Duro Felguera announced on Tuesday the completion of its participation in the construction of eight liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanks in Kuwait, at the Al Zour petrochemical complex, with a capacity of 225,000 cubic meters each (with a diameter of 96 meters and height of 45 meters).

As reported by the company, it is the refinery with the largest capacity for LNG storage and regasification in the world, with environmental standards, and the first permanent LNG import plant in Kuwait.

Felguera-IHI, a subsidiary of Duro Felguera specializing in fuel storage plants, LNG storage tanks and storage equipment, completed on April 28 the service it has been providing for the last six years to Wood, the head of the PMC of the project, and Kuwait Integrated Petroleum Industries Company (Kipic), the end customer.

The subsidiary has provided service with its specialized personnel both remotely and in person on site, in a first stage ‘off shore’ between May 2016 and May 2019 where the control of the entire engineering part was carried out, and a second stage ‘ on shore’ from October 2017 to April 2022 in which personnel have been arranged for the monitoring and control of the tank work, from construction to its pre-commissioning and commissioning.

The cooling and start-up of Phase I of the project (four tanks and the regasification plant) was carried out in September 2021, since which time the regasification plant has been in operation. In December 2021 the cooling and commissioning of Phase II was completed (four tanks remaining).

During 2022 the performance tests of the tanks (performance test – boil off rate test) have been completed. At the moment the plant is in normal operation with all its storage capacity available and operational, they explain from Duro Felguera.
