A fire in a grain silo in Brunstorf in the Duchy of Lauenburg district led to mobile phone restrictions on Monday. According to the police, a smoldering fire broke out in the silo for reasons that are still unclear. This led to a deflagration, said a police spokeswoman. Fire brigades from the Duchy of Lauenburg and the Hanseatic City of Hamburg were still fighting the flames in the afternoon, as the spokeswoman said.

The village road between Brunstorf and Worth is currently completely closed. Since there are radio mast antennas on the silo, there could also be restrictions on mobile communications, said the police spokeswoman.

In the evening, the extinguishing work continued, as announced by the district fire brigade association in the Duchy of Lauenburg. There are now hardly any flames visible from afar on the silo. Firefighters with respiratory protection had started to fight the flames from the inside via a staircase and were making slow progress. A fuel oil store with around 8,000 liters of oil adjacent to the silo is being pumped out as a precaution.
