A fire on an agricultural field in Stockstadt am Rhein (Groß-Gerau district) caused damage of around 230,000 euros on Sunday. A farmer had previously worked in the field with a tractor and round baler and then switched off the machines, the police said in the evening. A previously unexplained technical defect then triggered a fire in the round baler, which spread to the attached tractor and the mown field. It burned, therefore, on an area of 700 square meters.
The emergency services issued a warning because of the smoke and the associated smell. The fire was quickly under control and it was prevented from spreading to adjacent fields.
