According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of new Ebola cases reported each week in Uganda has been falling since the peak in mid-October. A case was last reported in a district of the capital Kampala on November 14.

The total as of November 21 was 141 confirmed cases and 55 confirmed deaths. In addition, there were 22 probable deaths from Ebola, as reported by the WHO, citing the Ugandan Ministry of Health. The government declared the outbreak on September 20th. According to the WHO, a quarter of those affected were children under the age of ten.

Tests with new vaccines are also planned in Uganda. The cans had not yet arrived as planned. But they are expected in the coming days, the WHO said. A committee of WHO and external experts recommended a total of three vaccine candidates for testing.

Ebola cases in Uganda are due to the Sudan variant of the virus, for which there are no approved vaccines yet. Two vaccines are approved against the Zaire variant, which caused a major outbreak in West Africa around 2014, but they are not effective against the Sudan variant.
