A woman was attacked by a shark off the coast of South Australia and suffered serious head injuries. The 32-year-old was in the water with a friend when the animal attacked, 9News reported. The shark also bit her on the face.
The accident occurred near Port Noarlunga, south of Adelaide. Numerous emergency services were deployed and provided first aid before the victim could be taken to hospital.
There were numerous bathers on the beach, including many children. “It was really terrible,” Tom Bearne, who lives in the area, told ABC. “I’ve never seen anything like this here in my entire life.” It was initially unclear what species of shark it was. Emergency services searched for the animal – but initially without success.
It was the fourth shark attack off the state of South Australia this year. Two of the victims were never found. A 64-year-old woman survived an attack with serious injuries to her leg at the beginning of October.
