On Sunday, May 29, a biker ran off the road in Saint-Pompain (near Niort), in Deux-Sevres. The 61-year old lost control of his bike and made a wrong turn on a secondary road around 4:45 p.m. France Bleu reports that he fell five metres into the river below after hitting the parapet of a bridge.
Eleven firefighters participated in the rescue operation, along with specialists from the GRIMP Group for recognition and intervention into dangerous environments. They were able reassembled the victim. The victim was in a critical condition and the prognosis for his life is uncertain. He was taken to University Hospital of Poitiers.
