Opponents of liquefied natural gas terminals off the island of Rügen have used the new viewing platform above the Königsstuhl near Sassnitz for a protest. As a police spokesman said on Sunday, three people abseiled down the so-called Skywalk in the afternoon and unrolled a protest poster. The operators of the 185-meter-long circular Skywalk trail, which hovers over the chalk cliffs and only opened on Saturday, alerted the police.

The protesters ended the action after about an hour. On Thursday, around 600 people protested against LNG terminals in the region during a visit by Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck (Greens) in Binz on the island of Rügen.
