The mayor of Talavera de la Reina, Tita García Élez, has presented the city’s Tourist Destination Sustainability Plan, a project that entails an investment of 4.2 million euros and that, around the Tagus River and ceramics, It is designed to “improve the life of the Talaverans, encourage the arrival of companies and advance the city model.”

Economic amount charged to European funds that will be possible to manage in coordination with the Ministry of Industry and the Community Board, recalled the mayor.

With an execution term until 2024, it is an investment that “goes beyond this mandate”, and that for the mayor is “a pride” for having achieved this amount.

The plan is based on two lines of action, such as the Tagus River and ceramics, which is divided into four axes. The first is in the field of green and sustainable transition, with more than 1.5 million euros.

This includes the sustainable recovery of the Isla de los Molinos de Arriba and the old Hydroelectric Power Plant. Firstly, the “rehabilitation of a natural space and an emblematic building for the city” will be achieved; and, secondly, “generate a pole of tourist attraction” to carry out multiple activities.

Once the works have begun, the inclusion of the property on the Red List of Endangered Heritage will be requested, the Talavera councilor has advanced.

The second axis is aimed at improving energy efficiency, and collects 450,000 euros. The planned actions include setting up charging points for electric vehicles in the vicinity of the Power Plant, acquisition of electric bicycles, recovery of the old boat and exhibition of ceramic sculptures produced with renewable energies.

The third axis, García Élez continued, is dedicated to the field of digital transition, with more than 970,000 euros. Here the project to musealize the Hydroelectric Power Plant stands out, with technology based on immersive digitization to explain our ceramics, water, the environment and the building itself; and a web portal, which will show the project already made a reality, presenting Talavera as a “destination for nature, ceramics, sustainability and artistic creation”.

The fourth, and last, revolves around the field of competitiveness, with about 1.3 million euros. In addition to promoting the ceramic sector, by promoting new ceramic production and design processes and a program of multidisciplinary artistic residences, the axis includes the construction of a rope park, zip lines and viewpoints, the acquisition of equipment for piers and canoes, the recovery of pottery from the 19th century and the implementation of the Sicted quality system to improve tourist experiences in Talavera.

It is a “qualitative leap” in the tourism promotion of Talavera, because “we believe in tourism as an engine of development” and the potential of the city to become “one of the main capitals of inland tourism in the entire Iberian Peninsula” , the mayor has remarked.

All this will be articulated promoting artistic and natural resources such as the Tagus River and ceramics; as the perfect complement to parallel actions such as the refurbishment of the Iron Bridge or the forthcoming lighting of the Old Bridge.

This ensures that the river environment is within the protection of the Historic Site. This Sustainability Plan, along with other projects such as Meta, GAIA-X or the Edusi funds, are translating into “real investments” for the city and its inhabitants.

The journalist and weatherman from Talaveran, Roberto Brasero, has supported the presentation of this strategy, and has defended that these funds “provide sufficient capital so that this is not just a dream, but that it becomes a reality for the Talaverans and those who are going to visit us. visit in the future.

It is about taking advantage of the opportunity to recover the environment of the river and that hydroelectric building, Brasero recalled. “You take a tour and visit the space and envy those who are seeing and discovering the environment for the first time, imagining everything it can have.”

“Having a water museum next to the Tagus River, a ceramics museum in the land of ceramics and hiking trails” is the goal. «When something is good, the more it is known, the better people appreciate it. It is a very exciting project », she asserted.
