A 49-year-old taxi driver was attacked in Berlin on Thursday and died in hospital. The perpetrator or perpetrators are said to have fled, said a spokeswoman for the Berlin police. A passer-by discovered the critically injured man on a quiet residential street in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district. “Witnesses to the incident had provided first aid and alerted the police and the emergency services,” said the police spokeswoman.

The background of the fact is unclear. The police spokeswoman did not provide any information about the circumstances of the discovery of the injured person and the nature of the injuries. A homicide commission and the public prosecutor’s office are investigating.

Several Berlin media had previously reported on the act of violence in the Grunewald district. The “Berliner Morgenpost” wrote, citing eyewitnesses, that a doctor was nearby. Medical measures would have started immediately. Accordingly, the taxi driver is said to have been lying lifeless on the street.
