Düsseldorf investigators are convinced that they have finally solved a decades-old murder case in Meerbusch near Düsseldorf. At that time, a 50-year-old woman was found dead in a corn field. Investigators suspected a sex murder. 31 years later, a 63-year-old suspect has been identified, police and prosecutors said.

The man is already in prison for another felony. Charges have now also been brought against him for the 1992 murder. Details of the case and the question of how it was possible to solve the case after 31 years, the investigators want to announce on Thursday.

The murder victim, a tourist guide, was walking in the Rheinauen near Meerbusch and must have met her murderer there. Her body was later discovered in a corn field. The case was then linked to another murder of a woman in the region a year later.
