A woman from Güsen (Jerichower Land district) was taken in by internet scammers at the weekend when she tried to sell her smartphone. She lost around 600 euros, the police said on Sunday. She had placed the mobile phone on an online trading platform and was contacted by a supposedly interested party. According to the police, he asked for the sale to be processed using a “secure payment function” and stated that he needed the woman’s e-mail address.
The Güsenerin finally gave out her email address and later received an email with a link. She followed this link and also followed further instructions from the supposedly interested party. The woman also sent two transaction numbers from her bank. A short time later, two debits were made from her account. “Then the contact with the supposedly interested party broke off,” said a police spokesman. Transaction numbers for online banking should never be given to anyone else, he said.
