After the violent death of a 17-year-old Ukrainian basketball player in Oberhausen, his 18-year-old teammate has now also succumbed to his injuries, a police spokesman in Essen said. The young man was taken to the intensive care unit after the crime. The spokesman said his condition had recently deteriorated dramatically. Because of the crime, four suspects are being investigated for jointly committed murder. The main suspect is a 15-year-old German-Turk from Gelsenkirchen who fled after the crime on February 10th and was arrested at his home the following morning. According to the investigation, he is said to have stabbed the victim and killed her. According to the information, the other suspects are a 14-year-old German-Greek from Herne and two 14- and 15-year-old Syrians from Gelsenkirchen.
According to the murder squad, the young people had already had a verbal altercation on a bus on the way to downtown Oberhausen. When those involved got off the bus at the main train station, the argument escalated.
