After the fatal shots in Bielefeld’s pedestrian zone, the search for the perpetrator or perpetrators continues. Bielefeld police said the murder squad was working on numerous clues.
The shots were fired on Saturday evening in the middle of Bielefeld’s pedestrian zone. The victim is the former boxing professional Besar Nimani, as a police spokesman confirmed when asked at midday. The 38-year-old from Bielefeld had Kosovar citizenship.
Charge of illegally carrying firearms
As has now become known, the Traunstein public prosecutor’s office (Bavaria) only brought charges against Nimani on March 1st – for illegally carrying five firearms and ammunition. This is said to have been noticed during a check during entry from Austria at the beginning of January. Senior public prosecutor Rainer Vietze from the responsible public prosecutor’s office announced this on Monday evening. Nimani should therefore be summoned by the court, but a date has not yet been set. The “Westfalen-Blatt” was the first to report on it.
According to police investigations, the man parked his car near the crime scene on Saturday. Then Nimani had walked towards a shop. He was then shot at while he was still on the street, according to a joint statement from the police and public prosecutor’s office. According to the autopsy results, the 38-year-old died from numerous gunshot wounds. “The main injuries were to the chest area,” investigators said.
According to police, one person was initially arrested late on Saturday evening after a witness statement suggested possible involvement in the crime. However, the suspicion was not confirmed. The person was released.
