A woman was killed near Lake Dümmer in Lower Saxony. According to the police, the suspect – her 49-year-old partner from the Cloppenburg district – was involved in an accident on Autobahn 1 a short time later and was seriously injured. The NDR had previously reported.
After an emergency call, officers found the seriously injured 41-year-old woman on the street in a residential area in Damme, the police said. She died on site despite attempts at resuscitation. The investigators assumed it was a homicide and suspected the woman’s 49-year-old partner.
Seriously injured in an accident
A short time later, the suspect had an accident further north near Wildeshausen on Autobahn 1 towards Bremen and suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries. According to police, the man crashed his car into the back of a truck in a construction area. The car then caught fire on the closed shoulder.
First responders freed the seriously injured man from the wreckage, presumably saving his life, it was said. He was later flown to a hospital by helicopter. On Friday afternoon, a police spokeswoman said the suspect had been arrested. It is unclear whether he was still in the hospital at the time and what his health condition was.
The A1 towards Bremen was temporarily closed from the Wildeshausen-West junction.
