Crews Respond to Building Collapse in Montgomery County, No Injuries Reported
PERRY TOWNSHIP, Ohio – Crews swiftly responded to a report of a building collapse in Montgomery County on Tuesday, June 4. The incident took place in the vicinity of Brookville Pyrmont Road and North Sulphur Springs Road just after 7 p.m., according to Brookville Fire Chief Ronald Fletcher.
This particular building had a history with the local firefighters, having been a five-unit apartment building that experienced a fire outbreak a decade ago. Over the years, the structure had deteriorated significantly, falling into a state of disrepair. Authorities had been actively working to address the safety hazards posed by the vacant building.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in connection with the collapse. Witnesses and doorbell cameras confirmed that there was no one in or around the building at the time of the incident. Chief Fletcher highlighted that a portion of the building had collapsed onto Sulphur Springs Road.
Chief Fletcher speculated that the severe thunderstorm and strong winds that swept through the area might have played a role in the building’s sudden collapse. The local authorities and emergency responders acted promptly to secure the area and assess the situation.
As investigations continue into the cause of the collapse, the community is grateful that there were no casualties in this unfortunate event. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of addressing structural safety concerns in a timely manner to prevent such incidents in the future.
