Two of three old aircraft bombs have been defused in a wooded area of the Niederwald hunting lodge near Rüdesheim. The police in Bad Schwalbach reported that it would be the turn of the third dud in the next few days. The explosive ordnance clearance service found the World War II bombs during a search operation on Tuesday, they were about 100 meters apart.
The sites were cordoned off over a large area and the hunting lodge, the cable car and parts of the forest and vineyards were temporarily evacuated. Two bombs were defused within a good hour. The bans have since been lifted.
