The Government Delegation in the Canary Islands has confirmed that the murder of Clotilde, an 83-year-old Galician woman allegedly at the hands of her husband on Wednesday afternoon in Los Cristianos, Arona (Tenerife) is a case of gender-based violence, once The investigation of the National Police advanced.
The events occurred around 4:30 p.m. when the National Police agents appeared at a house, following calls from several neighbors to 112. The agents found the body of the woman, with stab wounds, along with to her husband, who was also injured, perhaps after self-harming.
The 84-year-old man, who was in a health center under police custody to recover from his injuries, has already been discharged and arrested, although he has not yet been brought to justice.
The couple, both residents of Galicia, were in the south of the island spending a holiday season and there are no previous complaints of gender violence.
The Cabildo de Tenerife and the Arona City Council have held rallies this Thursday and a minute of silence in rejection of the events.
