Four-legged friends can also celebrate at WorldPride 2023 in Sydney: colorful dogs presented their elaborate costumes at the “Doggywood” parade in Victoria Park at the weekend. They were judged by a jury in categories such as “Eleganza Extravaganza”, “Reach For The Stars” and “The Gold Dogie”, as the organizers announced. Among other things, a greyhound with colorful feather boas, a small mongrel with a headband in rainbow colors and a poodle in a tulle tutu strutted down the catwalk.

The Australian metropolis gave the starting signal for the 17-day event on Friday, the most important major event of the year for the global LGBTQI community. WorldPride is taking place in a southern hemisphere city for the first time. More than 300 events are planned. The heart of this coming Saturday is the famous Mardi Gras parade on Oxford Street.

The English abbreviation LGBTQI stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans people, queer and intersex people. The plus sign and the asterisk are placeholders for additional identities and genders.
