When it gets hot, a dip in the cool sea can refresh you. The only question is: how much longer? Meteorologists and climate researchers are not only recording heat records in the air. The world’s oceans have also been warming up for decades – and have now reached record levels. Meteorologist Jörg Kachelmann, for example, complained via Twitter that the water on the Irish coast is currently 19 degrees warm – “more than five degrees warmer than usual”. In fact, the world’s oceans are reaching record temperatures, according to data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
