Cine-club du Bassin presented “Good Morning England” to its members by Richard Curtis at Espace Bremontier. The film was inspired by a document on pirate radio Caroline. Bernard Chabbert, journalist and Europe 1 reporter presented it.
This hilarious comedy relates the story of the lives of Radio Rock’s crew, a group of passionate and sassy DJs from England in the 1960s. They were able to make the English dance to music that was then considered diabolic, pop and rock, while emitting from a freighter in international waters, in North Sea, to avoid regulations. They are being demanded by the British authorities to be removed. All efforts will be made to stop their activities. After watching this film, Bernard Chabbert recalled the history of pirate radios in France. He also shared his experiences in radio. In order to avoid bans on broadcasting outside of the territory in the 1950s Radio Monte-Carlo and Radio Luxembourg broadcast in Saarland (Germany).
Next session: Friday, June 17, with the screening “Italian Divorce” (Pietro Germi).
