“Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!”, “Last Christmas” and “Driving Home for Christmas” are the most popular Christmas pop songs in Germany. That was the result of a representative online survey by the opinion research institute YouGov, in which a total of 29 of the most well-known Christmas pop songs were queried.
According to this, 60 percent of the more than 2000 respondents stated that “Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!” by Michael Bublé or Dean Martin, for example, like “very good” or “rather good”. 21 percent like the hit “rather not” or “not at all”. Also “Last Christmas” by Wham! liked 60 percent of those surveyed, but here there was a broader front of opponents of the very frequently played evergreen (27 percent).
Almost everyone knows “Last Christmas”.
Chris Rea’s Christmas ballad “Driving Home for Christmas”, on the other hand, annoys relatively few people. 59 percent of those surveyed like the hit, only 17 percent don’t like the song. 15 percent said they didn’t know the song, compared to just 6 percent for “Last Christmas”.
The hits “Feliz Navidad” by José Feliciano, “White Christmas” by Bing Crosby or Michael Bublé (each 58 percent) and Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You” ( 56 percent).
Incidentally, there are different winners in the respective age groups of the respondents: Carey’s song is in the favor of the 25 to 34 year olds at the top, the 45 to 54 year olds voted “Driving Home for Christmas” to 1, the Germans from 55 years prefer “White Christmas”, 35-44 year olds and 18-24 year olds prefer “Let it Snow!” rather.
Every third person doesn’t like “In the Christmas bakery”.
Rolf Zuckowski’s children’s song “In der Weihnachtsbäckerei” (In the Christmas Bakery) has the relatively highest nerve factor, although it ranks 7th in popularity with 55 percent, but at the same time 29 percent of those questioned do not like it.
Especially newer and still relatively unknown pop songs have a hard time in the YouGov ranking. The last two places are occupied by Ariana Grande with “Santa Tell Me” (liked 29 percent, 40 percent don’t know it) and Justin Bieber with “Mistletoe” (liked 23 percent, 43 percent don’t know it).
