Anyone who wants to live in Germany must accept “that responsibility for Israel is part of German identity and raison d’état,” Haseloff continued. “Anyone who doesn’t want to accept that can’t belong to our society.”
In response to the war in the Middle East, there have recently been repeated pro-Palestinian rallies in Germany, at which the police documented anti-Semitic and anti-Israel statements – for example in Arab parts of the Berlin district of Neukölln.
