When the climate and weather were still reasonably intact, there was a golden rule that drivers were taught in driving school: “from O to O”. This means that from October to Easter you should only leave your car on the road with winter tyres. The advice was wise for a long time, because even at the beginning of autumn or spring, when a mild westerly wind usually keeps the cold at bay, drivers were often surprised by snow, black ice or hoarfrost. And got into trouble. However, “O to O” was not included in the Road Traffic Act (StVO).
