After the slap of Titanium, rewarded in 2021 the games are open to the Palme d’Or award on Saturday evening between a young director that questions masculinity (“Close”) and a South Korean thriller (or the film of the brothers Dardenne), who could score an unprecedented hat trick.
After seeing the 21 films, Vincent Lindon, chair of the jury, drew in great secrecy to decide who would receive a Palme, which is more elegant than ever. The Palme will be adorned with 100 diamonds in this 75th edition.
The Ecumenical Jury Prize was awarded to “The Good Stars”, a Japanese film about a mother who abandons her child. The Francois Chalais Prize, which recognizes a film that accurately portrays the “best of the reality of the universe”, was also awarded to another film in the competition.

20h12 : Vandermeersch, van Groeningen et Skolimowski aussi sur les marches
Belgium is represented well in the prize list because the Belgian filmmakers Felix van Groeningen and Charlotte Vandermeersch (“The Eight Mountains”) were also on the steps. The organizers will likely recall the film crews that climb the steps and they will be included on the list in some way.
Ruben Ostlund was webbed for “The Square” in 2017. He tries a double with the “Sans Filtre” punk mix between “Titanic and “La Grande Bouffe”. The acid satire on the ultra-rich, which made the Croisette burst with laughter, is also present. “It’s almost like being at home,” he joked while climbing the steps with Filipina Dolly De Leon, one of his actresses.
The UFO team “EO [Hi Han]” is another option. It’s a poetic and animalist manifesto that follows the story of a donkey. It was signed by Jerzy Skolimowsk, a great Polish filmmaker.
8:04 p.m . : South Korean director Park Chan Wook walks the red carpet
Park Chan-Wook, a South Korean director, is clearly present at the steps with actor Park Haeil-Il, “Decision to Leave” star.
7:54 p.m . Ukrainian director Sergei Loznitsa at the steps
Sergei Loznitsa, the Ukrainian director of “Donbass”, is standing on the steps to view the closing ceremony. As some Ukrainians requested, he had considered it “grotesque” to try to ban Russian presence at the Croisette.
7:37 p.m. : Lukas Dhont and the Dardenne brothers on the steps
Luc and Jean Pierre Dardenne are seen on the steps. They will be presented with two Palmes d’Or, “Rosetta”, and “L’Enfant” by the brothers. A prize will be given to “Tori and Lokita”, their film about young African exiles who are trapped in Belgium’s mafia.
Lukas Dhont (the young Belgian director) is also present on the steps, along with Eden Dambrine, his main interpreter.
7:34 p.m . : Let’s climb the last set of stairs
Ruben Ostlund (the Swedish author of “Triangle of Sadness”), is the first filmmaker to take the steps tonight. This comedy could be a satire on the ultra-rich and earn a lot of money.
Tarik Saleh, the Swedish director of “Boy from Heaven” was also present on the red carpet. This thriller follows the story of a young fisherman son who enrolls in a high school that forms the religious elite in Cairo, Egypt. (He-so is Egyptian).
7:25 p.m . : Will there still be children among the winners?
We have never seen so many films about youth and childhood at the Cannes Film Festival. The Croisette buzzes with predictions for films in which young actors play the lead roles. What will Vincent Lindon, actor, do as the chair of the jury?
