Because of a major fire, Deutsche Bahn had to close the train route between Düsseldorf and Duisburg on Tuesday morning. Trains in local and long-distance traffic are affected, said a railway spokeswoman. Long-distance trains would be routed with a significant delay over a route that would otherwise only be used for freight traffic. Most regional trains, on the other hand, end without replacement in Düsseldorf and Duisburg. The route between the two major cities is one of the busiest in Germany. It was initially unclear how long the closure could last.
In the Angermund district of Düsseldorf, a commercial establishment caught fire near the railway line on Tuesday morning. Around 80 firefighters were on duty. According to the emergency services, there is a metalworking shop and a carpenter’s shop on the premises. Nobody got hurt. The fire brigade warned the residents of an odor nuisance from the fire.
