Boris Johnson’s government will insist on the trade deal with EU within one year and excludes the extension.

The uk government will have a trade agreement with the EU by december next year, and it can not be reached, so the period can not be extended.

It seemed the government understand on Tuesday.

But it was immediately met with a negative reaction from the european exchanges, who see it as the prelude to another drama on brexit – Britain can go from the UNION in december 2020 without any agreement.

Johnson will after last week’s elections in the Uk to use its newfound majority in parliament to prohibit, there can be more negotiations after december 2020, to extend the period of brexit.

– Our manifesto makes it clear that we will not extend the period of implementation (of a brexit, ed.), and the new law on the withdrawal will prohibit the government to go with an extension, says minister Michael Gove.

On the question, whether the government will legislate to exclude any extension, corresponds Gove: “exactly, absolutely”.

The conservative government is expected soon to have adopted the agreement in the european parliament, which Johnson signed with the EU in the election campaign.

It means that Britain is formally leaving the EU 31. January. But in the time leading up to december 2020 remains the country effectively remains a part of the EU, the internal market and the customs union.

Negotiations on the future trade relationship between the EU and the Uk will start in the new year.

Experts in the trade say that a meaningful agreement can not be in place in the course of a year. It is more realistic in five to ten years.

the EU’s brexitforhandler, Michel Barnier, says europe will “do the maximum” to keep within british the deadline. But he has previously called for a time frame of less than a year to completely inadequate.

the stock Exchange in London was in high spirits after last weeks victory for the conservatives in the Uk. But it went the other way on Tuesday, as the british government’s ultimatum for the negotiations became known. Here fell børsindekset the FTSE 250 with over a percent.
