In the assault trial before the Munich I Regional Court, football world champion Jérôme Boateng was sentenced to a fine of 120 daily rates of 10,000 euros each, i.e. a total of 1.2 million euros. The 34-year-old would have a criminal record.

The 2014 soccer world champion was accused of insulting, hitting and injuring his then partner, who is acting as a joint plaintiff in the proceedings, on a Caribbean vacation in 2018. “For us, the facts are more than proven,” said judge Andreas Forstner on the last day of the trial. Boateng was convicted of two counts of assault

In their plea for dangerous bodily harm, intentional bodily harm and insult, the public prosecutor’s office had demanded a suspended prison sentence of one and a half years and a fine of 1.5 million euros. Boateng’s defense pleaded for an acquittal.

Boateng was sentenced to a fine of 1.8 million euros by the Munich district court last year. The 34-year-old and the public prosecutor’s office lodged an appeal – the case was then heard again before the district court. Even after his verdict, appeals are possible again.
