A good four years after the disappearance of 15-year-old Rebecca in Berlin, the house of the suspected brother-in-law of the girl was searched again. This happened “some time ago,” said a spokeswoman for the Berlin public prosecutor’s office on Thursday. She did not name a specific time. RTL had previously reported. According to the spokeswoman, traces and evidence are now being evaluated. The spokeswoman did not say what was found in the house in Berlin-Neukölln, referring to the ongoing investigation. According to RTL, a bathrobe was found with the belt missing.

The police recently reported that more than 3,000 tips had been received since Rebecca’s disappearance in February 2019. To date there is a lot of information. The spokeswoman for the public prosecutor’s office did not say whether there may have been a decisive tip recently. “There must be at least one new clue to justify a search,” she told the German Press Agency. The search was carried out by a decision of the Tiergarten district court.

According to the RTL report, acoustic measurements should also have taken place in the house. This was to test which noises penetrate from the inside to the outside, it said. The public prosecutor’s office did not provide any information.

Brother-in-law is under suspicion

Rebecca disappeared on February 18, 2019 in the Britz district of Berlin-Neukölln. To date, she has not been found alive or dead. Since then, a murder commission in the Berlin State Criminal Police Office (LKA) has been investigating. Rebecca’s brother-in-law is under suspicion. According to the family and the police, the 15-year-old had stayed with her sister. The police believe that the teenager did not leave the house alive.

To this day, her brother-in-law is the only suspect. The police arrested him twice and released him again. He denied having anything to do with the disappearance. Murder does not become statute-barred, and even in cases of missing persons, the files are not finally closed.
