Local artists in the performing and visual arts were impressed by the decision to make Didam available for artists during the 2021 confinement. The Visual Arts division of the Culture and Heritage Department of the City offers a more comprehensive workshop-mission system that includes practice time and school mediation time. This is renewable every year at Didam.
This workshop-mission promotes interaction between artists who work on the territory and children and teens. The workshop-mission’s goal is to contribute to the artistic and cultural education that must be provided to every young person at all times, including school, home and beyond school.
This operation was created as part of the urban renewal project by the Basque Country Agglomeration Society on the Quai des Lesseps. In 2022, the right bank Adour project will launch with a phase to enhance the “yesterday’ aspect of this quay. This includes its history, great figures, and what past for what news.
The Didam invites Jana Lottenburger and Judith Millot, collective Labo Estampe, visual artists and photographers who use protean approaches to practice installation, artist’s book, and engraving… They work together in a Boucau workshop and provide professional training in engraving and argyrotypy as well as other printmaking processes. They are regular collaborators in cultural and artistic education projects with schools at the Ecole Superieure d’Art Pays Basque as well as at the Mediatheque de Biarritz.
Transit is creating a topic around the history of Quai des Lesseps for this first edition. This will allow Transit to offer an artistic interpretation at the intersection with City of Art and City History.
This exhibition features the Labo Estampe artists’ research from their May residency at Didam, as well as recent work. These works are compared to the student’s achievements during mediation: engraving on tetrapak, plastic, drypoint, monotype, and visions of Quai des Lesseps. These artists are now curators for the day of June 9th. They offer a highlight at the middle of the exhibition by changing the scenography and presenting new works.
The Labo Estampe also invites six artists each year, each one a priori from engraving but whose approach demands exploration of this medium: Anne-Laure Garicoix and Gregory Cuquel, Sebastien Lasserre, Kolet Gyhenetche & Marie Labat, Christophe Clottes.
