Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann reacted a little thin-skinned to the term coaching talent. When Sky moderator Sebastian Hellmann commented that ex-Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge had called him that, Nagelsmann said: “Everyone says that, not just Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. (…) In my opinion, say it’s definitely too many.”
The coach then added defiantly: “I’m also a talented trainer, I’m proud of it. I do my best every day, I know that. Everything else should be evaluated by others.” The mood of the 35-year-old was not the best anyway after FC Bayern’s bitter 2-2 draw at Borussia Dortmund with the goal conceded in the last second.
Rummenigge, however, could not understand the excitement about his statement. “That was praise and no criticism at all,” said the 67-year-old on Sunday on TV station Bild. “I’m a bit surprised that it’s being put in a negative context. Talent means that someone has great potential. You can see that great potential in him in the handwriting of the team.”
