Children can now bring their wishes for the Christ child personally to Bavaria’s only Christmas post office in Himmelstadt in Lower Franconia. On the 1st of Advent, the Christmassy decorated post office opened, where thousands of children’s letters have been viewed by volunteers for weeks and some of them have been answered personally. Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) put the first day stamp on the Christmas letters from the Christ Child, which are sent to children in many parts of the world.

All – mostly standardized – reply letters receive a Christmas stamp and the special cancellation. The post office does not accept wish lists by e-mail. The volunteer manager of the Christmas post office, Rosemarie Schotte, expects up to 80,000 wish lists by the end of the year.

toys, health and family

In addition to the desire for toys, many children are also concerned with health or the well-being of the family. According to Schotte, many people say thank you for the gifts from last year.

Himmelstadt is one of several so-called Christmas post offices in Germany. The Christmas post office in the small village in the Main-Spessart district has existed since 1986, when around 3,500 letters arrived each year. If you would like an answer from the Christkind, you should address your letter “To the Christkind, Kirchplatz 3, 97267 Himmelstadt”.
