FC Bayern Munich is getting closer and closer to the coveted playoff ranks in the basketball Euroleague. The Bundesliga team won against the Italian club Virtus Bologna on Friday evening with 91:84 (43:38) and after the fourth win from the past five games with a record of 9:12 wins they are only two wins behind eighth place. “It was quite a fight, a very physical game,” said national player Niels Giffey at Magentasport. “We’ve evolved now.”
With a strong performance on the defensive and a good playmaker Cassisus Winston and Augustine Rubit, the team of coach Andrea Trinchieri got into the game well. After ten minutes, the Munich team was 22:18 ahead, and by the break the hosts had increased their lead to five points.
Bayern held the lead in the third quarter as well. Although Bologna was able to shorten the gap again and again (49:51/24.), Bayern always responded with a good series. The club went into the final round with an eleven-point lead (66:55) and with a concentrated performance they couldn’t take their sixth home win away from them. The best shooters for Munich were Rubit with 18 points and Winston with 15 points.
While the Trinchieri team welcomes BG Göttingen in the Bundesliga on Sunday (3:00 p.m./Magentasport), the basketball premier class continues on Tuesday (8:30 p.m./Magentasport) in Valencia, Spain.
