“I’m not getting any more. I can’t do it anymore. I think it’s a grenade: finally shoes!” Horst Lichter is happy when he sees what’s on the table in the dealer’s room. Sven Deutschmanek, on the other hand, views the object with mixed feelings. These are childhood memories, says the expert, and hints: “Football has shaped my life.”

But first the owner enters the room, Ömer Ötztürk. The customs declarant from Mönchengladbach acquired the couple 20 years ago. Since he will soon be a father for the second time, the 39-year-old has to make room at home and would like to sell the shoes at “Bares für Rares”. This is the “Uwe Super” model from Adidas, referring to the legendary HSV player Uwe Seeler, explains Deutschmanek. The model was manufactured in Brazil in the mid-1970s. At that time, the sporting goods manufacturer called itself “the brand with the three belts.”

Then it gets personal: Sven Deutschmanek talks about his past. He didn’t like playing football as a child, “but I had to”. He grew up with his grandparents, his grandfather played soccer in the district league and thought his grandchildren should too. So they should live out their grandfather’s childhood dream. The problem: “We were absolutely not in the mood.” Deutschmanek and his brother had “two left feet” and they regularly lost their games by a huge margin: “We just got pissed off,” was the conclusion.

Ötztürk would like 100 euros for the couple, but the expert considers that unrealistic: he estimates the value at 50 to 60 euros. The man from the Lower Rhine would sell it for that, and so he accepts the dealer card. Deutschmanek wants to know from Lichter afterwards whether he also played football. But the moderator just laughs out loud: “I’m ball dyslexic.”

In the dealer room, Steve Mandel first thinks of the infamous quote wrongly attributed to Winston Churchill: “No Sports”. Everyone present is at a loss as to the value of this couple. After all, Daniel Meyer starts with 50 euros. And Mandel, who sits in “Waldi’s” regular seat, offers the obligatory 80 euros. This has already exceeded the value of the expertise. Since no one goes over it, the deal comes about at this price.

Ötztürk has a good use for the money: “My children get the 80 euros in the money box.”
