Barcelona has inaugurated its first literary residence in the facilities of Vil·la Joana of the Museum of History of Barcelona (Muhba), in the Collserola park, which will receive its first authors this Monday and integrates the city in an international exchange circuit of writers.
In a statement this Tuesday, the Barcelona City Council has detailed that the residence has three single bedrooms with a private bathroom and a work area, in addition to different shared spaces, such as the kitchen-dining room, designed to “promote the relationship” between the residents. .
The new equipment completes the Literary City project, which has also entailed initiatives such as the literary map of the city, the Reading Action Program, the Montserrat Roig and Carme Montoriol writing scholarships, literary festivals promoted by the city and participation in fairs other places.
The Vil·la Joana literary residency project provides for different modalities: writers from the UNESCO Network of Cities of Literature, or translators, “prioritizing translations of the work of authors from Barcelona in particular or Catalans in general”.
It also contemplates hosting writers from other literary exchange programs with the participation of the Barcelona Institute of Culture (ICUB) and professors and researchers who work on the history of literature or comparative literature and the complete works of a writer from Barcelona.
The building is located in the Collserola mountain range and “offers an environment conducive to literary creation and research, but at the same time guarantees easy accessibility to the city,” the town hall highlighted.
