A sea turtle has laid eggs on a beach in Mallorca for the first time. A visitor to the beach discovered the clutch at Can Pere Antoni, the city beach of the island’s capital, Palma, in early June. So far, such clutches were only known on the two sister islands of Menorca and Ibiza. “The extraordinary thing is that female turtles usually return to their place of birth to lay eggs – and they do so throughout their lives. However, no sea turtle attempt to nest in Mallorca has ever been recorded,” says Xisca Pujol, environmental expert at Coral World International.
