When lightning struck a tree at a tourist restaurant, three people were critically injured in Baden-Württemberg.

According to previous knowledge, they were sitting at a beer table set under the tree, as the police announced in the evening. They are a 35-year-old man, a 43-year-old woman and an 11-year-old boy. They were given medical attention by first responders and later by paramedics and then taken to clinics.

Another 40-year-old woman also suffered injuries in the afternoon incident in the municipality of Unterensingen, but they are not life-threatening, it was said. Her two children – a 4-year-old boy and a girl aged almost 11 months – suffered a shock. They were apparently in a bicycle trailer when the lightning struck, police said.

The rescue service was on site with a large contingent, including four emergency doctors and a rescue helicopter. An emergency aftercare service was deployed to look after the first responders and eyewitnesses. According to the police, around 15 people had sought shelter in a barn when the thunderstorm blew up.
