A record sum of 31 million euros was achieved at a wine auction in Burgundy. The auction house Sotheby’s announced on Monday in Paris that this was a world record for a charity wine auction. Wine lovers from 30 countries took part on Sunday at the 162nd charity event of the Hospices of Beaune, an internationally renowned foundation winery.

One of the fine wines that changed hands for maximum values ​​is “La Pièce des Présidents”, a 228-liter barrel of Corton Renardes Grand Cru that was auctioned for 810,000 euros. A total of 802 “pièces” came under the hammer, as the barrels are called in Burgundy. The Beaune Hospices are among the most famous monuments in France.
