Michael Jordan continues to set records long after his career as one of the best basketball players in the world – this time in shoes.
The sports shoes, which the now 60-year-old is said to have worn in the second NBA final game in 1998, were auctioned in New York for 2.2 million US dollars (the equivalent of around two million euros). According to auction house Sotheby’s, no pair of shoes has ever sold for more money.
Unusual sneakers have recently made headlines at auctions because high prices were achieved. In October 2021, for example, Sotheby’s auctioned off a pair of Jordan sneakers that the ex-pro wore in his first NBA season for around $1.5 million. A pair of shoes worn by US rapper Kanye West at the 2008 Grammy Awards brought in $1.8 million.
