The dead and injured in the Love Parade accident 13 years ago were remembered with candles in Duisburg on Sunday. The “Night of 1000 Lights” traditionally takes place on the eve of the anniversary. Gradually, starting in the early evening, the grave lights were lit – first in the access tunnel and then at the site of the accident, where there is a memorial today.

On July 24, 2010, 21 people between the ages of 17 and 38 were crushed at the only entrance and exit to the Techno Parade. At least 652 Loveparade visitors were injured at the time. Since 2013, the memorial has commemorated the deceased with photos and crosses.

The commemoration was again organized by the Duisburg association “Citizens for Citizens”. Another public commemoration will take place on Monday at the scene of the accident. The event will also be broadcast as a live stream. The annual prayer in the Salvatorkirche, which is held beforehand, is only for the relatives. During their stay in Duisburg, the relatives, some of whom are traveling from abroad, are accompanied and cared for by the “Foundation Duisburg 24.7.2010”.
