Two grasshopper species newly discovered in the US state of Texas have been named after the musicians Willie Nelson and Jerry Jeff Walker.

The species discovered in the central Texas steppe are now called “Melanoplus nelsoni” and “Melanoplus walkeri,” said researchers led by JoVonn Hill of the Mississippi Entomological Museum. In recent years, they had explored the central Texas region and discovered a total of seven new grasshopper species there. Two of them are now named after Walker, who died in 2020, and Nelson, who recently turned 90, two of the most famous musicians from Texas.
